What I do
Carpentry services in Bridgwater, from one door rehung
to the whole house
I’m Matt Thorne, a carpenter and joiner in Bridgwater, working across Somerset from Taunton to Weston-super-Mare. This is the lot, not a shortlist. If what you want isn’t here, ring me anyway and I’ll tell you straight whether it’s my kind of job.
13 jobs I take on, all of them fitted by me
Internal and external doors fitted
Hung true to the frame they’re going in, which in an older house is never square. Handles and hinges fitted, one door or a full house of them.
- PVC
- Timber
- Composite

Flooring
Set out so the boards land full width where everybody looks, at the doors and down the middle of the room.
- LVT
- Laminate
- Engineered board

Skirting, architrave and frames
Cut and scribed to the wall you’ve actually got, not the one it was meant to be.

Media walls
Fire, telly and every cable inside the wall, with shelving and cupboards either side. Flat to the wall, and it can go in any room.

Faux chimney breasts
A proper chimney breast built where there isn’t one, with an opening for the fire and a solid oak beam across it as a mantel.

Staircase refurbishment
Oak cladding over your existing treads and risers, with new handrail, spindles and newel posts. It looks like a new flight without tearing the old one out.

Fitted wardrobes and built-in storage
Made to measure for the wall it goes on and scribed to the ceiling, so it looks like it grew there.

Shelving units
Alcoves, chimney breasts and the awkward corners nothing off a shelf will fit. Built into the space rather than stood in front of it.

Kitchen fitting and worktops
Units levelled and squared to a room that isn’t either. I fit the lot myself, so the standard on the last unit is the standard on the first.
Worktops I’ll do on their own too, on the kitchen you already have. Cut and joined on site with the sink and hob cut in, and it’s the cheapest way to make a tired kitchen look new.

Timber wall partitions
Stud walls to split a room, with the door frame in and shelf recesses formed while it’s built rather than cut in afterwards.

Decking
Framed, levelled and laid to drain properly, so it doesn’t sit wet and go green in its first winter. Handrails and spindles to match where the deck sits up off the ground.
- Composite
- Timber

Cladding, house and garden
Clad a garden studio, an extension or the front of the house, set out so the boards line through at the corners and the fixings don’t show.
- uPVC
- Timber
- Composite

Fascias, soffits and guttering
Stripped back and replaced where the timber has gone. Full replacement or capping board.

Not sure which one your job is?
Most jobs are two or three of these at once. Ring me and describe it, and I’ll tell you what’s involved.
