It’s me who answers, not an office. If I’m on the tools I’ll ring you back the same day.
If you’d rather writematt@mthornecarpentry.co.uk
Handy if you want to send photos of the job. I usually reply the same day.

What happens after you get in touch
Four steps, no surprises
- You tell me about the job. A rough idea is plenty. Photos help if you have them.
- I come and look at it. Free, and it’s the only way to price a job properly.
- You get a straight price. Written down, with what’s included, and it doesn’t move afterwards.
- You get a realistic date. Not the date you want to hear. The one I can actually do.

The things people ask first
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Every quote is free and there’s no obligation. Tell me about the job and I’ll come and look at it.
Do you take on small jobs?
Yes. A single door rehung is as welcome as a full run of fitted units. Plenty of my work is half a day.
How soon can you start?
Depends on the job and the time of year. Get in touch and I’ll give you a realistic date when I quote.
What areas do you cover?
About a 45-minute drive from Bridgwater in any direction, which takes in Taunton, Burnham, Weston-super-Mare, Street, Glastonbury and the villages between. I don’t take work in Bristol itself. Check your town.
Do you fit brand new staircases?
Not usually. I refurbish staircases rather than replace them, which normally means oak cladding over the existing treads and risers plus a new handrail and spindles. It costs a lot less than a new staircase and you keep the house in one piece. New builds tend to be site work, and I’d rather be in people’s homes.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes to both. I carry £1m public liability insurance, so anything damaged while I’m working is covered. I’m NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds qualified with over twenty years on the tools, and a vetted Checkatrade member, which puts their £1,000 guarantee behind anything booked through them.
Who actually turns up and does the work?
I do. Nothing’s subbed out, so the man who quotes the job is the man who does it and the one who clears up at the end.
