Who is responsible for your information

The data controller is Matthew Thorne, trading as M. Thorne General Carpentry, Bridgwater, Somerset. If you have any question about your information, email matt@mthornecarpentry.co.uk or ring 07443 514654.

What we collect

When you send an enquiry we collect your name, your contact details, your town, and whatever you tell us about the job. That is all. We do not buy in contact lists and we do not add you to a mailing list.

If you accept analytics cookies we also receive anonymous usage statistics about the pages you visit. See the cookie policy.

The website also keeps daily totals of taps on its call, email, WhatsApp and directions buttons, and of enquiries sent, with no names or other personal details in them (the cookies page explains how, and how to opt out). If you answer the optional question 'How did you find us?', that answer is kept with your enquiry and counted the same way, to see which places bring work.

Why we are allowed to hold it

For enquiries, the lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, you have asked for a quote, and we cannot give you one without your details. Where we then reply and carry out the work, it is our legitimate interest in running the business and yours in getting the job done. For analytics, the lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who else sees it

Your enquiry goes to Matt. It is not sold, and it is not shared for anyone else’s marketing. Two suppliers necessarily handle it in passing: the company hosting this website and delivering its email, and Google, if and only if you accepted analytics cookies. Both act on our instructions.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become jobs are deleted within twelve months. That includes the copy of each enquiry kept in a private log on this website’s own server, which is there so an enquiry can’t go missing. Where you become a customer, records are kept for six years after the work, because tax law requires it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to us holding it. Email matt@mthornecarpentry.co.uk and we will deal with it within one month, free of charge.

If you are not happy with how we have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
