Cookie Policy
Last updated 28 August 2026
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This site uses as few as it can, and it does not use any advertising or social media tracking cookies at all.
Essential cookies
These are needed to make the site work and are always on. There is one: a small setting that remembers the choice you made about analytics, so we do not ask you again on every page.
Counting taps, without cookies
When someone taps a button to ring, email, WhatsApp or get directions to M. Thorne General Carpentry, this website adds one to a daily count for that page, kept on the website's own server. That is all it keeps: no cookie is set, and nothing that could identify you or your device is stored. The counts are used only to see which pages bring enquiries, so the site can be improved. The law allows this without asking first, as long as you can say no. To say no, press "Don't count my taps" below: this browser will remember it, and a browser that sends a Global Privacy Control signal is never counted.
Analytics cookies
We’d like to use Google Analytics to see which pages people find useful and which they never reach, so the site can be improved. It records things like the pages you visit and roughly where in the country you are. It doesn’t tell us who you are, and we ask Google not to store your full IP address.
These only run if you accept them. Nothing analytics-related loads until you choose Accept on the banner. If you choose Reject, no analytics cookies are set and none are loaded, and we remember that so you are not asked again on every visit.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time. Show the cookie banner again, and pick whichever you prefer. Turning analytics off stops anything further being collected, though it cannot undo what was already recorded during a visit where you had accepted.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking the essential one won’t stop the site working, though the cookie banner will reappear each time you visit because the record of your choice is what gets cleared.
